"[Gaming] is not ruled out."
| Former FIGR Vice-Chair Gene Buvelot |

|
| From March, 2000, MetroActive, North Bay Bohemian |
In March, 2000, tribal Vice-Chair Gene Buvelot and Chairman Greg Sarris gave an interview to The Bohemian. In that interview,
both men spoke openly about the possibility of the tribe engaging in gambling, about the "new" bill (Boxer's) that
would allow them to do so, about the fact that they would have to acquire more land than the one acre still in the hands of
a tribal member, and that they had already been approached by gambling interests.
Three months later, Greg is sitting before Congress asserting that the one remaining acre had already been given to the
tribe, that all they want is that one acre, that they wouldn't build a casino, and anyway, they couldn't build a casino on
just one acre even if they wanted to. And, oh, yes: also giving grossly incorrect information to Congress about California's
Prop 1A.
What's wrong with this picture?
The picture gets even murkier. In 1999, tribal member Frank Ross was out lobbying Marin County candidates for state office
to see if they would support Indian gambling if elected. Frank approached Fairfax Councilman Frank Egger, who was running
for State Assembly. Frank Ross said that if Mr. Egger would support Indian gambling if elected, he would set up a meeting
for Mr. Egger with Greg Sarris to discuss it further, and they would contribute to his campaign. Mr. Egger is opposed to
all gambling, so he refused the offer of money, and it was given to his opponent, instead. You don't believe it? Well, Frank
Egger, who is the longest-serving elected official in the State of California, still has Frank Ross' business card from the
encounter!

"AND YES, GAMBLING COULD STILL BE IN THE CARDS"
FROM THE MARCH 9-15, 2000 EDITION OF THE BOHEMIAN:
"... Buvelot says once the tribe is restored, the next step is to find land (the parcel in Graton is apparently too small
to be used) to become a functional rancheria, which could be anywhere in the tribe's extensive historical territory. The goal
is then to create some sort of economic development.
And, yes, gambling could still be in the cards."

ALL WE WANT IS ONE ACRE, MR. CONGRESSMAN!
FROM THE MAY 16, 2000 CONGRESIONAL RECORD:
Mr. SARRIS."...Due to taxes and what have you, that family was able to hold on to only one acre of that land. A woman, the daughter of the designee, who still lives on the land, has given it to us as a token to restore
to trust status, the tribal lands, and, in turn, restore us as a tribe..." Mr. GILCHREST. You're asking for one acre?
Mr. SARRIS. One acre. Mr. GILCHREST. Even if you wanted a casino, it would be a pretty small casino. Mr. SARRIS.
Mr. Chairman, unless we could get an architect that could build an 87 story casino on one acre, it's unlikely."
